Students working together
Studying in a small university of applied sciences makes is easy to work with students from other fields of study than just your own. An example of this, is a project where the first year students in International Business and the third year students in Sports and Leisure Management were put together. The main ohjectives of the project were to create opportunities for the new students to make friends with their seniors in a fun and informal way. In addition, the task also aimed to help the new students to know their new learning and living environment better, thus helping them to settle down smoother.
The students were tasked to create two very useful outputs to help future Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) students and themselves to better cope with cultural shock issues when they come to study here. The students worked in teams mixing business and sports students.
The teams had four weeks to work on the project. The first joint session started with an informal team building session, followed by two structured joint lectures to work on the contents. Upon completion, the teams presented their results and outputs. The products were then evaluated by the first year sports students and few KAMK staff based on criteria such as quality of the output and contents, usefulness and relevance to the project objectives, team work etc. Finally, the winning teams were identified and awarded. The awarded output can be found below (poster, booklet).
